About Bush Brothers - Secret Family Recipe

Kathleen BushFor as long as the Bush family can remember, Kathleen Bush made the tastiest baked beans from a secret recipe she wouldn't share with a soul. Whether it was a special occasion or just a family gathering, Kathleen would always serve her famous baked beans and the family just couldn't get enough. Family members would even jest about selling the recipe, saying, "If you put this taste in cans, they'd fly off the shelves!"

Bush's Baked Beans CanAs Kathleen's son, Condon grew up with the family business, but he never forgot about the idea of canning his mother's delicious baked beans. He would often try to recreate the taste, but when he would make the recipe, it just wasn't the same. Condon became frustrated with his results, but refused to give up on his dream of sharing the delicious taste of his mother's baked beans with everyone.

One night in the late 60s, after everyone had left the plant, Condon enlisted the assistance of co-workers Beatrice Piel and Tom Rugotzke. Working late into the night, the three hopeful chefs labored over a five-gallon pot, stirring and adding the right touch of special ingredients, and hoping that this time it would be the right mix. Shortly before sunrise, Condon dipped a spoon into the pot and slowly drew it to his lips.

"We did it!" he screamed. "We finally did it!" The three happy employees helped themselves to a heaping bowl and basked in their success. Condon decided then and there that it was time to share the taste of his mom's baked beans with America, and all three employees made a pact to keep the recipe a secret.

Several years later, Condon passed the secret family recipe down to his son, Jay Bush. Jay never told another soul until his dog Duke came along, and he's not talking...yet.
