ALL OF THE BEANS.
Brian's Office Chili Cook-Off Tips
Chili is serious business. Ready to get down to it? By Brian Baumgartner
February 06, 2024
If there's anyone that knows about cooking chili in an office...it's me. Since chili season is in full swing, Bush's® is letting me guide you and your chili to victory. So this list of tips is for you, future chili cook-off winner.
Also, it should go without saying but use Bush's® Beans in your chili. Trust me.
TIP #1: KNOW THE JUDGES
They have preferences, and you need to discover them. Oh, Janet can't do spice? Good to know.
TIP #2: GET THERE EARLY
There aren't that many outlets in an office kitchen. Trust me, a good location will pay dividends later in the competition.
TIP #3: BUTTER UP YOUR COWORKERS
Once they like you, circle back to get their vote for your chili.

TIP #4: USE THE CHILI CHEAT CODE
The best chili chefs know when to work smarter, not harder. Use Bush's® Chili Magic® chili starter to make a flavorful base that you add your own special magic onto.

TIP #5: BRING THE TOPPINGS
You should do this to be nice, but you can also do it because it makes you a hero. I love being a hero.
TIP #6: SMELL COVERAGE
Like I always say, "the nose is the heart of the mind." Well... I said that once.

TIP #7: WEAR AN APRON
Wearing an apron can add immense credibility to your culinary reputation. Not to mention I happen to look very professional when I wear one.
TIP #8: WALK CAREFULLY
This is always the hardest part for me, but spilt chili wins no cook-offs.

TIP #9: MAKE IT YOUR OWN
Don't just use a recipe from the internet. Add your own personal blend of flavors that makes it uniquely yours (for me, it's undercooking the onions).
TIP #10: PRACTICE
You can't just...make an award-winning chili. Like everything in business, practice makes perfect! Plus, you can bring the leftovers for lunch.
Chili cook-offs can be competitive, so don't forget to have fun and just enjoy the chili process!
That's what this is all about. Good luck in this year's cook-off,
Brian Baumgartner
