WAIT, WHAT ARE NAVY BEANS?

Some folks call them haricot beans or white beans, but we prefer the fabled moniker “navy beans.” Legend has it that during the 19th century, the US Navy supplied these small, white beans to sailors on long voyages because they were packed with nutrients and had a long shelf life. The beans became so popular among the sailors that they earned the nickname “navy beans.” And, well, the name stuck.

Today, navy beans are still loved for the delicious taste and nutritional benefits. They’re a source of plant-based protein, fiber, iron and several B vitamins. That’s why these little beans are the key ingredient in our Baked Beans and Grillin’ Beans. So, let’s celebrate navy beans and all the tasty meals they can make!

BUT HOW DO I COOK BEANS ON A GRILL?

Sure, you can cook up our classic Baked Beans on the stovetop. But it’s summertime, and we know you want to get outside and use your grill as much as possible. When cooking Bush’s Beans on the grill, follow these simple tips and tricks:

  1. Choose a cast-iron skillet or a disposable aluminum pan to cook the beans in.
  2. If you're feeling extra flavorful, add some diced onions, bacon, or other seasonings to the beans.
  3. Cook the beans on indirect heat to avoid burning them.
  4. Stir the beans occasionally and cook beans for 20-30 minutes or until they are hot and bubbly.
